Everyone today is working virtually, not only people located in different countries and time zones, but people on different floors and in different offices. Research shows that physical distance is the factor that impacts people the least when they work remotely, compared to other factors such as inability to relate interpersonally or lack of shared context.
It is also common to think that technology is at the centre of the virtual workforce but research shows us that people and the relationships between them are at the centre and have the most impact on performance.
Leading inclusively in a remote and virtual work environment means to be aware of and look out for these hidden traps. It means to consciously use a defined set of interpersonal skills to bridge the gaps that technology created and ensure that all individuals are included.
Coupled with this we are often working remotely with clients, which adds a challenge to the relationship building process.
The workshop will include practical exercises to help participants to:
- Be familiar with the risks and opportunities as shown in research about virtual teams and managing individuals and working with colleagues who work at distance
- Have a clear picture of what a successful and inclusive virtual team looks like
- Identify which skills they have to develop in order to lead and work with virtual teams and individuals at distance more effectively
- Identify how to apply these skills to all virtual working situations including working with clients.
Schedule:
12.00pm: Registrations, lunch and networking
12.30pm - 2.00pm: Talk
2.00pm: Close
