More individuals are choosing to work beyond their retirement age. As the average lifespan of humans increases, the age diversity in the workforce we are seeing now is the widest ever. Each generation brings their own biases, mindsets, expectations, and communication styles to the workplace.

Managing this increasingly multigenerational workforce involves a set of complex new challenges. Organisations must ensure that all generations feel valued. It is a fine balancing act and when not handled well, may be counterproductive and result in the loss of rich talent.

Being aware of each other's needs, challenges, viewpoints, strengths, biases – even fears, is key to unlocking the power of intergenerational collaboration in the workplace. 

FWA and UBS welcome you to a timely discussion on Breaking the Bias surrounding multigenerational workforces. During this session Choo Guan Yeoh from UBS, Virginia Tan from She Loves Tech, and Spencer Hsu from Ernst & Young, will share their insights on how to leverage age diversity in the workplace and achieve winning collaborations.

Specifically, we will discuss:

• Managing a multigenerational workforce – best practices to nurturing an inclusive work environment

Yeoh Choo Guan (Managing Director, CEO of UBS Securities Pte Ltd, Head of ASEAN Global Markets and Head of Tech Connect, APAC in Singapore, UBS) 

Choo Guan is a Managing Director with UBS. She is the CEO of UBS Securities Pte Ltd, Head of ASEAN Global Markets and Head of Tech Connect, APAC in Singapore.

Choo Guan has been with UBS since 2001 and has been located and/or licensed in numerous locations including Hong Kong, China, Taiwan and India.

Since 2015 she has been a member of the SGX Disciplinary Board and the MAS administered Finance Scholarship programme.

Choo Guan holds a Masters of Science degree from Oregon State University, Oregon, USA, and a Bachelors of Science degree from Humboldt State University, California, USA.

Virginia Tan, Co-Founder of She Loves Tech

Virginia Tan is the founding partner of Teja Ventures, the first gender lens VC fund for emerging Asia. As a pioneering thought leader for gender and technology in Asia, she founded She Loves Tech, the world’s largest startup competition for women and technology. Virginia Tan is also the founder and former president of Lean In China, one of China’s leading nonprofit platforms for women with over 100,000 members across more than 25 cities and 100 universities in China, which supports the goals and aspirations of Chinese women. 

Virginia's background is in law and finance, having worked in Europe, Middle East, Asia, Africa and South America for 2 magic circle firms Clifford Chance and Allen and Overy. She specialised in emerging market investments and has covered more than USD 30 billion of transactions in the course of her career. She moved to Beijing in 2013 to work on strategic investments related to the "One Belt One Road" initiative. 

In 2020, Virginia was selected by the Rockefeller Foundation as one of 8 Next Generation Leaders for its Beijing25+ Summit in 2020 and made Singapore’s 100 Women in Tech inaugural list. She was named by Fast Company as one of 100 most innovative people in business in China and by Prestige as one of Singapore's 40 under 40 in 2019, and as a Global Shaper by the World Economic Forum in 2014. Forbes as hailed her as "removing barriers to global women’s empowerment and Fast Company has named her "the Hua Mulan of the business world”. Her work has been featured by leading media such as Forbes, Bloomberg, Financial Times, BBC, China Daily, CCTV, Straits Times, VICE etc. She has spoken at some of the world's largest corporations and leading institutions such as Alibaba, Baidu, Bloomberg, Dell, Disney, DSM, General Electric, Google, P&G, HP, Medtronic, Peking University, Tsinghua University, Columbia University, UNICEF, UN Women, World Economic Forum, Milken Institute, etc.

Spencer Hsu, Associate Partner, Private Tax Services of EY Corporate Advisors

Spencer is part of EY’s private tax services team focusing on providing comprehensive solutions to family offices, covering areas such as tax, trusts, succession planning, family governance, operations, philanthropy etc.

Prior to this, Spencer led the team in MAS responsible for the development of Singapore’s wealth management industry, where he was closely involved in efforts to develop Singapore’s family office eco-system. 

Spencer holds a degree in Social Sciences (with Honours) from the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the National University of Singapore, where he majored in Psychology, and was part of the University Scholars Programme.

Priscilla Wuersch-Ng, FWA Mentee 2020

Priscilla is a Financial Officer with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), World Bank Group. She is responsible for structuring local currency derivatives and fixed income transactions across emerging markets within the Asia region. As the regional ESG lead for Treasury Client Solutions (Asia Pacific), she is deeply involved with business development efforts for Green and Social Bonds and working closely with regional regulators in developing their domestic capital markets. 

Outside of work, Priscilla volunteers her time as an EXCO member in the Financial Women’s Association of Singapore (FWA). She is the Co-Founder of PreLouLou, re-commerce platform for children’s designer clothes.

No Show Policy

We understand that with busy schedules, there may be times when you cannot make an event after you have registered for it. In the event that you cannot make an event, we appreciate that you use our new tool now available to cancel the event. Cancellation is allowed up to 2 days ahead of the event date. To do so, please log in to the FWA website, under “My Account”, select “My Events”, you can cancel the event registration under the “Cancel registration” column. For members that no-show for 3 consecutive events, we regret to inform that you will be barred from attending any FWA events for the next 3 months.
