Today, women are arguably better off than ever. We have female astronauts and prime ministers, women are successfully managing their own businesses, more women than men are even pursuing advanced degrees. But the fact remains that across the globe women are still not paid equally to men and women are still not represented equally in leadership roles. We’ve heard the numbers before (most recently from Sheryl Sandberg and Anne-Marie Slaughter): Out of 190 heads of state; 9 are women. Of all the people in parliament in the world, 13 percent are women. In the corporate sector, the share of women who hold top jobs and board seats is no more than 15 percent. 

Citi executive and award winning author Marie Claire Lim Moore believes that if we want more women in leadership roles, we can’t underestimate the importance of balance. If we want more women in leadership roles, she argues, we need more women to pursue both professional success and personal fulfillment. If more women could strike this balance, more women would reach leadership positions across all sectors of society.

In this entertaining talk, Claire will be sharing personal stories and inspirations from the best-selling book she wrote during her maternity leave. In addition to amusing anecdotes about her “immigrant experience” growing up in Canada and the US with ‘80s sitcoms and Philippine People Power demonstrations, Claire will explain why women need to make their own rules, why one definition of success for her is achieving an integrated life and why now more than ever it’s critical to connect with other women. 

Her stories will resonate with people of any culture and inspire women everywhere to find their balance.

About the speaker: Marie Claire Lim Moore, Regional Director at Citi and Author of Don’t Forget the Soap (And Other Reminders from My Fabulous Filipina Mother) 

Marie Claire Lim Moore is Asia Pacific Regional Director of Global Client Banking at Citi where she is responsible for the retail bank’s global services across 14 countries. Claire is also author of Amazon.com best seller Don’t Forget the Soap (And Other Reminders from My Fabulous Filipina Mother) and is frequently invited to speak at conferences and events about her experiences pursuing a successful career, a passionate dream, and a fulfilling family life. 
  
Claire has over 15 years of extensive international experience managing global consumer banking and payment products. She started her career at American Express in New York City where she managed strategic relationships with the company’s largest travel partners including Delta Air Lines and Ritz Carlton Hotels & Resorts. She joined Citi in 2001 to grow the US Cards American Airlines portfolio and lead the shift from traditional to online marketing. In 2005 she began her series of overseas assignments in Latin America and Asia. Since then she has held various senior level positions throughout the Global Retail Bank.
  
After spending the early part of her childhood in Vancouver, Claire moved to New York City in her early teens and attended the United Nations International School. She went on to study at Yale, climb the corporate ladder at Citi and travel around the world. She met her husband, Alex, while working in Sao Paulo, Brazil and they married in Manila, Philippines shortly before moving to Singapore where she is now Mom to Carlos and Isabel.

Claire is regularly ranked among leaders in the Asian-American professional community and her experiences have been written about in The New York Times, USA Today, Smart Parenting, People Asia and Asian Journal. Claire is passionate about promoting work-family balance for women through her talks as well as her writing. Previous speaking engagements have been hosted by UN Women, The Council on Foreign Relations, and Business Council for Peace. 

The talk is followed by a short Q&A session.
