GIC will be holding an open Safehouse session at GIC on Saturday, 14 November, tentatively from 9.00 am to 12.00 noon. There are limited spaces available, and we invite your children aged between 15 to 18 to join in the fun. Places will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis. Deadline for RSVP is 5 November 2015.

Safehouse is a 3-hour experiential, transmedia game developed by GIC for 15 to 18 year-olds aimed at helping them to understand what reserves management and long-term investing is all about. The game comprises two parts, an online role-playing module that challenges the player to rounds of quick and hard decision-making, and a team-based strategy module that requires mental agility to complete seemingly simple tasks.

Safehouse has been rolled out to several schools (e.g. VJC, HCI, RI, ACS (I), CHIJ St Nicholas, AJC, Singapore Sports School) and has generated great interest. To date, more than 1300 students have undergone this unique financial literacy programme. More than just fun, students understood through gameplay some important investing principles such as risk diversification, value versus price, and picking their spots.

FAQs

1. Do parents need to stay for the session?
It is not necessary, but they are welcome to observe and can indicate their interest to do so with GIC beforehand so that we can pre-register them accordingly.
  
2. Do participants need prior knowledge of economics or finance to play the game?
No, this is not a requirement.
  
3. Are there any costs involved for participants?
None whatsoever. This is a complimentary financial literacy session.
  
4. Is there a dress code?
Participants should arrive in comfortable attire and footwear, as the game will involve a fair bit of sitting on the floor as well as running about. They may also wish to bring a jacket or sweater as the room can get a little chilly. 
  
5. Will lunch be provided?
The session will end in time for participants to make their own lunch plans, though light snacks will be provided.
