FWA Singapore announced our FWA Male Champions at our annual celebration of International Women’s Day on 6 March 2015. The role of men in supporting the advancement of women in their careers cannot be underestimated, especially as they still make up a majority of senior leadership positions and make key hiring and promotion decisions. In this regard, our male champions support the development of women in their careers, and how women can pursue workplace success whilst balancing responsibilities on the personal front.   

In our very first dialogue session with our FWA Male Champions entitled Males from the Top (taking a pun off Tales from the Top), we ask our Male Champions to give us their take on the work environments they specialise in, their views and observations on challenges that female employees face in the workplace, how women are perceived and measured, addressing gender stereotypes and biases, women on motherhood track and advice for women wishing to join the industry. 

We are pleased to have four esteemed men from top investment management, asset management and wealth management companies join in this discussion.

Speakers' Bio

KEVIN HARDY
Managing Director, Head of Beta Strategies, APAC & Country Head, Singapore
BlackRock

Kevin Hardy, Managing Director, is BlackRock's Head of Beta Strategies in Asia Pacific and Country Head of Singapore. He is responsible for the portfolio management and strategy teams for the institutional and iShares index equity product range. As Country Head, Mr. Hardy is responsible for the management, leadership, and strategic direction of BlackRock's operations in Singapore. He is also a member of the BlackRock Asia-Pacific Executive Committee.

Mr. Hardy has had an international career in fund management dating back to 1993 and has worked in Hong Kong, Chicago and London. Before joining BlackRock he spent nine years in various leadership roles at Northern Trust including; four years as the Head of the asset management in Asia-Pacific and country Head for Hong Kong, two years leading international sales, and three years leading global transition management. Mr. Hardy had previously spent a combined ten years in equity index fund management in London at State Street Global Advisors and Legal and General Investment Management.

Mr. Hardy earned a BSc degree, with honours, in business studies from the City University Business School in 1993 from Northwestern University, and a Masters in Public Management & Policy from Carnegie Mellon.
 

LIM CHOW KIAT, CFA
Group Chief Investment Officer
GIC Pte Ltd

Lim Chow Kiat joined GIC, Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund, in 1993 as a portfolio manager.  He is currently its Group Executive Committee co-chair, managing director and group chief investment officer (GCIO).  As GCIO, he leads GIC’s investment process and strategy, including asset allocation, active capital allocation and large investments. Previously, he served as deputy GCIO and president of public markets group and European operations.

He is a board member of Chinese Calligraphy Society of Singapore and Wealth Management Institute.  He also serves on the strategic committee of Agence France Tresor and the advisory board of Focusing Capital on the Long Term. In 2012, he became the youngest inductee of the Fixed Income Analysts Society Hall of Fame in recognition of his contributions to the advancement of fixed-income analysis and portfolio management. In 2013, he was given an alumni achievement award by his alma mater Nanyang Technological University (NTU). Mr. Lim graduated with first-class honors in accountancy from NTU in 1993, and has attended the Stanford Executive Program.  He is a chartered financial analyst (CFA).
 

JASON MOO
Managing Director & Regional Manager for Private Wealth Management, Singapore
Goldman Sachs 

Jason is the regional manager for Private Wealth Management (PWM), Singapore, responsible for client and market coverage in South East Asia and Australia. 

Previously, Jason was head of the Market Solutions Group and head of the Alternative Capital Markets in Asia, and before that he worked in the Equities Merchandising Group in New York. Jason joined Goldman Sachs in PWM in Singapore as a financial analyst in 1998 and was named managing director in 2007.

Jason earned a BA in Economics and East Asia Studies, with focus on Japan, from Brown University in 1998.

Ms Jennifer Lewis 
Head, Communications
GIC Pte Ltd

Ms Jennifer Lewis is responsible for the strategic management of GIC’s internal and external communication activities. She joined the sovereign wealth fund in 2007 after more than twenty years as a journalist with television, print and online experience. She was the founding Editor of both Straits Times TV, Singapore's first television news organisation owned by a newspaper, as well as STOMP (Straits Times Online Mobile Print), a news website that leveraged online tools to change the way news was received and distributed in Singapore. Jennifer serves on the board of the Singapore International Foundation and has been a Governor since 2007.
