A Roundtable: Why Women Fail? 
Women constitute almost half of the workforce, yet hold a small percentage of the top management positions. Why are women failing to make it to the top of the corporate ladder? Do men really possess superior qualities compared to  women?

The Shirin Fozdar Program is proud to present: Why Women Fail? – a Roundtable featuring a Keynote Address and a Panel Discussion. Women are not making it to the top because of inferior qualities, but because of backward thinking. Discrimination still remains women's greatest obstacle on the ladder of success, but is only one of many obstacles. Women must overcome lack of mentors and role models in the workforce, as well as lack of spousal support. Furthermore, women face internal roadblocks within themselves such as socialisation (upbringing), and the decision of pursuing a career, pursuing a family, or pursuing both a career and family. The eternal struggle between brain and heart weighs down a woman’s ability to bring fruition in her career. This Roundtable hopes to unveil this mystifying reality about why women fail?

Come and be part of this engaging discussion as we bring together four (4) wonderful distinguished women to share their views and discuss this vital and critical topic with all present. This session will be moderated by our board member Mr Ron Kaufman

CLAIRE CHIANG

Claire Chiang, Senior Vice President, Banyan Tree Holdings, is a co-founder of Banyan Tree Hotels & Resorts. While managing the group’s retail business, she also serves as the Chairperson for China Business Development to acquire new management contracts, and is an Advisor to the group on key strategic issues in organisational and human capital capability. Ms. Chiang sets up Banyan Tree Global Foundation in 2009 to guide the group’s commitment to “Embrace the Environment, Empower the People”. In April 2009, Ms. Chiang and her husband, Mr. Ho Kwon Ping received the Hospitality Lifetime Achievement Award at the annual China Hotel Investment Summit. This award honours outstanding individuals for a lifetime of extraordinary leadership and contributions to the hospitality industry. Ms Chiang serves on numerous public and private Boards and has won national and international awards for her public contribution. She is the Director and Non-Executive Chairperson of Wildlife Reserves Singapore which is the holding company of Singapore Zoo, Night Safari, Jurong Bird Park and River Safari. She is also a Board Member of the National Arts Council. She serves in the Tripartite Committee on Work-Life Strategy led by the Ministry of Manpower and as the Chairperson of Employer Alliance, her team is tasked to empower work flexibility and engagement at the workplace. 

RON KAUFMAN

TERESA DOGGETT
Over 25 years, Teresa has received national media coverage as a statewide Texas and U.S. Congressional political candidate, an international banker, tax and business attorney and entrepreneur. An alumnus of Harvard University, she has travelled extensively. Teresa loves life, life’s challenges, world politics and is not afraid to attack opposing Goliaths. She says, “I love the tough challenges because I am ‘my father’s daughter’.” “I was encouraged to be and do ‘anything I wanted,” as long as I am willing to work hard and do my research.” My motto is, “I say what I mean and I do what I say.” Teresa has political support and is friends with many successful business and political icons. She feels it is an honor and privilege to give something back to the World. Her prize project.

BHARATI JAGDISH
Bharati Jagdish is noted for her insightful interviewing style as a radio and television presenter. She spent the first 5 years of her radio career at the international arm of MediaCorp Radio, Radio Singapore International, analyzing world events through incisive radio programmes. Her radio documentaries including a series on Muslims in America and how they were coping socially and politically in the post-9/11 world have made a define impact. The series entitled “A Question of Faith” won several awards. Her sharp observations and ability to ask incisive questions has resulted in multifaceted programmes with bite. Since being with 938LIVE, Singapore’s only English-language news and talk radio station, she’s hosted the evening show, “Express” and now hosts the highly-rated morning show, “FRESH!” which encompasses the station’s signature call-in show “Talkback” during which she speaks with ministers, MPs, specialists and the public. Bharati also has a record of executing “live” coverage of important news-generating events like the recent General and Presidential elections with flair. In 2011 and 2013, she won the Most Popular Radio Personality (938LIVE) Award at the Singapore Radio Awards. Bharati’s media experience extends to television as well. For two years in a row, in 2009 and 2010, she was the English commentator for the TV broadcast of Singapore’s National Day Parade on Mediacorp’s Channel 5 and was the host of Channel 5’s current affairs programme, “Singapore Talking”.

VINITA RAMANI MOHAN
Vinita Ramani Mohan is a writer and co-founder of Access to Justice Asia, an organization she managed from 2008-2013 that documented the narratives of Cambodian survivors of the Khmer Rouge and represented them before the Khmer Rouge Tribunal. She is currently a curator with the Documentation Center of Cambodia, developing content on genocide and healing for provincial museums. A recipient of the National Arts Council’s Arts Creation Fund grant, she is also working on a novel.
